It is the end of January as I write this and BRRRR!!!!! It is cold. But, then again, I am always feeling cold. BUT, I warm up when I think about all the things our MCREA committees are up to. In 2020, the Finance Committee has met twice, with a smaller group meeting this week again. And at least one or two more meetings will have to happen before the new budget is formulated. Your Fundraiser Committee has met twice as well with another meeting this week (and it is not even February yet). They have at least 6 meetings planned between now and March 30 . Also, this week, the Revisions Committee is meeting. Many members are out soliciting gifts for our big BASH in April and Scholarship applications are beginning to come in. I am supposed to be on every committee, but I have a feeling some more things are going on.
Several members lobbied this year before the Legislature ended. Ginny Osborne, Susan Vigilante and I traveled to Trenton to Lobby. Unfortunately, we were not too successful. Our efforts to stop the Pathway to Progress from happening, didn’t pan out, but the Governor vetoed the bill brought to the floor by Sen. Sweeney to set up a Commission without input from Public Employees. Now back to square one and getting Chapter 78 Relief and Fairness for our ESP’s. Tim McGrail and others made their way to Trenton before us that week.
I am off to Trenton this week to meet with the County Retired Presidents. The interesting news is that several County Presidents have indicated that they would like to join our Morris group. I have also asked for membership forms for Passaic County and Ocean County. We are all hoping to learn from each other. This is a new group of membership for our Association.
I went to an XYZ of Retirement meeting last week. Over 70 people from Madison and Chatham attended and many came to me to pick up membership applications to Morris County! There will be a Morris County XYZ in late February. Joanne Belmonte and I expect to attend to see if we can earn some more members.
Please remember to put April 24th on your calendar to bring a friend to our Fund Raiser at The Zeris. Proprietor Andy is closing the restaurant down in June, so you might want to come, have a great time and say goodbye to Andy at the same time. You will find the coupon to attend within this Newsletter. Please also reserve June 10th for the Scholarship luncheon. This is always a great meeting since we honor Future Teachers.
Stay warm and happy and we will see you on March 11th at Zeris with updates during our meeting and to enjoy “Laughter Yoga! Without a Mat!!!!” Remember that reservations are due no later than March 1st .
